Dear Shades of Greysters, DAVID AND GOLIATH LAWSUIT So many people have asked about the Tucson greyhound track suing me that I’m just posting a general message. Because of its David and Goliath nature, the Citizen Media Law Project at the Harvard School of Law posted it in their database. You can read about it here - http://www.citmedialaw.org/threats/tucson-greyhound-park-v-zoldan FUNDRAISING FAREWELL This past weekend Angy Shearer, AGR Fundraising Director, resigned. Angy’s leadership helped garner almost 20 grants of varying amounts (along with grants coordinator Glenda Taylor). Angy developed sponsorship relationships and co-marketing strategies. She put the fun in fundraising. Though not on the board, she will still be out at the kennel helping out with the dogs. TUCSON DOG PROTECTION In the summer newsletter there’s a short blurb about the Tucson Dog Protection ballot initiative. it is totally grassroots and came about through the efforts of a local veterinarian, a guy who has success with animal rights ballot initiatives in two states, and a retired attorney/adopter. Over 100 veterinarians have endorsed the initiative as well as others and all the press coverage has been positive. Please take some time now to read about it online – WWW.TUCSONDOGPROTECTION.COM and get involved. The Tucson Dog Protection ballot initiative directly impacts the dogs that local greyhound adoption groups receive from the South Tucson greyhound track. The initiative is about 3 modest humane improvements where dogs spend less time in cages; to stop giving dogs steroids to prevent them from going into heat (dogs in heat cannot race or make money), steroids cause medical problems especially for females; and to stop being fed raw 4D (diseased) meat which the FDA and the Oregon Racing Commission deems unfit. YOU can make a difference in the lives of Tucson’s racing greyhounds. Let’s all show our support for improving modest humane conditions at the track! Who cannot support humane? The TDP needs a graphic designer and more bilingual volunteers as well as people to help get the word out and of course, donations of any size. Please check out WWW.TUCSONDOGPROTECTION.COM . Thank you for all you do. Hug your hounds. Karyn Zoldan karynzoldan@gmail.com
