Adopt A Greyhound

Every greyhound needs a home, but not every home needs a greyhound. We do not adopt our greyhounds as first come first served; but rather, we make an educated and conscientious attempt in matching the right dog with the right home.

In an effort to match each greyhound with his or her best possible home, Arizona Greyhound Rescue has a multi-step adoption process that allows our volunteers to get to know potential adopters, and to provide the information and support necessary to ensure a successful placement. Available Hounds

We adopted 46 hounds in 2016!

Bently

Born: July/2012
Race name: Kiowa Cry Meyer
Color: Brindle Greyhound
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Weight: 74
Status: Available
Bently came to our family from Alabama. He is a beautiful orange and black brindle, with a short tail. Bently is very sociable and affectionate. He is house-trained and uses a doggie door. He love walks, playing with squeaky toys, getting petted, getting treats, and lounging on a memory foam bed. UPDATE: Due to circumstances in the home, Bentley's adoption did not go as expected. He is available and looking for a couch to call his own soon! We would like to place him in the same home as Fusion as they have become a bonded pair.

Fusion

Born: Oct/2014
Race name: Keeper Grandpa
Color: Black Greyhound
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: With Work
Small Dogs: With Work
Weight: 67
Status: Available
Fusion was an Alabama guy and just turned 2 in October. He can live in a house with cats and/or small dogs with work and patience. He is still a bit fearful, but he is making remarkable strides. Fusion is clean and patient and is social with the other hounds. UPDATE: Fusion's adoption did not proceed as planned. Can you help him find his home soon? AGR would like to place him in the same home as Bently as they have become a bonded pair.

Harley

Born: Mar/2013
Race name: Fiery Diablo
Color: Tuxedo Greyhound
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: No
Small Dogs: Yes
Weight: 68.6
Status: Available Soon
Harley is originally from an adoption group in Michigan. Until recently, he has been living in Canada. Harley is our Best Friends Valentine Promotion dog with an adoption fee of $14 with an application submitted by the end of Feb. He has Valley Fever in his left wrist and is on medication and pain management and is responding to the medication. FYI, Fluconazole through Road Runner Compounding Pharmacy in Phoenix is $960 for 1 year. He will need to stay on this med for at least a year. Soon, he will have his dental and nail trim and be ready for his forever home.

Earl

Born: 2016
Race name: NA
Color: Blue Grey Greyhound
Gender: Male
Housing: Foster
Cats: TBD
Small Dogs: TBD
Weight: 50
Status: Adoption Pending
Earl is a year old non-racing greyhound that was surrendered as a 5 month old puppy to the Benson Animal Shelter by a breeder. He has had his wellness check, shots, and his neuter surgery. He has a bowed left front leg, and he will have x-rays to determine if his growth plates are closed. When they are, we will be working with Kate Titus of A Loyal Companion for his brace and orthotic. What a lucky boy... he will be adopted by his medical fosters.

Sunrise

Born: Oct/2011
Race name: WW\'s Junk Bonds
Color: Red Greyhound
Gender: Female
Housing: Kennel
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Weight: 60
Status: Available
Sunrise joined the AGR family from a farm in Kansas. Her last race was in August 2014. She raced 65 races in her career and has had 6 puppies. Miss Sunrise had a bout of worms when she first came to us, but she is parasite free now! Sunrise has a high prey drive for cats and small dogs, and she is very reactive to fluffy, light colored small dogs. She likes females greyhounds but is not fond of male greyhounds. She is also reactive to other dogs who exhibit high unstable energy. UPDATE: Sunrise's adoption did not take place, so she is available!

Avery

Born: Dec/2011
Race name: MV\'s Heredity
Color: Dark Brindle Greyhound
Gender: Female
Housing: Kennel
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Weight: 56
Status: Adoption Pending
Avery joined the AGR family from a farm in Kansas. Her last race was in July 2014. She raced 68 races in her career. She is a darling little girl and is very intelligent and can open some types of gates. She is also very sweet and people centered. Avery had a bout of worms when she first came to us, but she is parasite free now! She has had a torn ligament on her right rear leg, but she has finished her anti-inflammatory meds and is now asymptomatic. Avery is scheduled for an orthopedic evaluation in March. Once she is cleared medically, she will be adopted by her foster family.

Baker

Born: Jul/2015
Race name: Raven
Color: Black Greyhound
Gender: Male
Housing: Kennel
Cats: No
Small Dogs: Yes
Weight: 74
Status: Available Soon
Baker is just a baby that joined the AGR family from Kansas. He is not registered with the NGA and never raced. He is an adorable big boy with soft bunny fur and a crooked tail... we think it must have been broken and healed at the farm. Baker is a confident and extremely affectionate boy. He needs a home with patience for puppy. He has had parasites and is being treated. He will have another evaluation at the end of the month. We have identified Baker as a possible service dog candidate.

Thom

Born: Jul/2015
Race name: Parr
Color: Red Fawn Greyhound
Gender: Male
Housing: Kennel
Cats: No
Small Dogs: No
Weight: 56
Status: Adoption Pending
Thom is just a baby that joined the AGR family from Kansas. He was never registered with the NGA and did not race. He is very affectionate with people and adorable with a fox-like profile. And check out his pictures... he sits! Thom does better with a confident dog as role model. It takes time for him to acclimate to new situations. He has had parasites and is being treated. He will have another evaluation at the end of the month. We have identified a family for him and as soon as he is parasite free he will move to his forever home.
